Hey, I'm Juani - a tech professional who spends his free time staring at the sky and writing code.
This is Codex Automata, home of The Astro Comp - a tool I built to explore the night sky from wherever you are. Point it at a patch of sky, and it will tell you what you're looking at: stars, planets, their distances, spectral types, proper motion, and more. It queries real astronomical catalogs - Hipparcos and Simbad - and renders actual sky survey images so you can see the stars exactly as they appear in that region of space.
I built it because I wanted something useful for those nights when you're outside, looking up, and wondering what that bright thing is on the horizon.
The site also has a blog where I write about the things that fascinate me: astronomy, astrophysics, physics, Linux, and open source. Expect posts about celestial mechanics, how stars work, the tools astronomers use, and whatever else captures my attention on a given week. Roughly one or two posts a week.
If you want to jump straight in, the app is right here on the homepage. No account needed, no setup - just your location and the sky above you.
Clear skies. ✦
